Kikkerland Leaning Men Bookends, Set of 2ReviewsGreat bookends. A clever and subtle design that holds up the books on my desk. Sticky pads on the bottom keep them from slipping. Great book ends. They are super sturdy as well as a delight to look at. These book ends will hold up just about any size or weight books. Well worth the money. The bookends make a nice addition to my DVD collection. My DVDs stand on a shelf that hangs over my TV and I needed something to keep them falling. I've received numerous compliments on the bookends. They're the perfect weight and are very sleek. It's also a great size to match up against the size of a DVD case. Very useful, nice finish, worth the price. FOr someone who is a book lover, these bookends are just what you need to finish the rows. HOLY COW its like amazon sent me two little dwarf movers. These guys are heavy and really hold their own against all of my mini truckin mags! Packaged correctly, faces in tact, no chips! Average Rating:![]() |

20x by 21mm TRIPLET professional JEWELERS LOUPE Black with LEATHER CASEReviewsmy husband is a geologist..Im interested in Petrology ...He is also and Astronomer and has made his own lenses....He liked them so much that he has taken ownership....might have to order another one for me the price is a bargain for the quality. Owning this reasonably priced tool is like having a powerful microscope in your pocket. Ideal for mushroom foragers as well as jewelers & anyone else who's interested in the fascinating beauty & complexity of the things around us, even those we see every day & too often take for granted. For mushroom foragers this considerably facilitates identification of gourmet & hallucinogenic species that often have toxic look-alikes. It's a perfect gift for kids who are curious about the world around them & like to examine the details of plants, flowers, foods, fabrics, etc., etc. I like it! The loupe, that is. It's a new experience seeing things that close. Really close. It took me a little to get used to using the loupe; i didn't know i had to practically stick my eye into the loupe to see what i wanted to see. And getting the light right for lighting up the surface of what i was looking at was a challenge, too. This is because i didn't know what i was doing, and had to learn as i played with it. It didn't take long to get used to using it. It seems adequate for what i want to use it for - checking out jewelry. But would also make some strange looking bugs even stranger, up close, and maybe too personal. Good value for the money; i have no regrets! This is a great little loupe. I use it all the time and not only just for jewelry. Very compact and easy to carry. Average Rating:![]() |

Kikkerland Bookend Men PushingReviewsWhen the package arrived, I was dismayed to see how flimsy the packaging was (heavy bookends in thin cardboard surrounded by thin styrofoam) Therefore, I wasn't surprised to see that there was indeed a chip on one of the bookends. The company I ordered them from through Amazon was very nice about sending me a label to return them, but it seems as though the whole inconvenience could have been avoided by packaging them properly in the first place. Also-I think if I order them again, there is a high chance these bookends will be damaged as well! I still think they look cool-and quality of product is as expected. These bookends are really stylish and I think they are cool and unique. Unfortunately, they are just impractical for any significant volume of books. They aren't heavy enough and the legs of the "pushing men" aren't sufficiently broad. I took one of my books out of the stack and when I replaced it the entire stack fell over and one of my poor men fell. Unfortunately, he lost his head. Very sad after I had him for only two weeks. We hardly ever buy stylish homewares like this and I was quite upset, even though I know it was solely my own fault as I had already judged the bookends to be too light for the application I bought them for. My husband is going to try to glue the head back on and we are planning on buying some cheap metal bookends to glue to the "wall" of this set of bookends. That way, we get a strong set of bookends with some fun styling. The bookends arrived safely and quickly. I really do love them and am hoping our fix will allow them to be used and not relegated to becoming a decoration on the shelf. (Well, one of them anyway) My only comment is that the two men are exactly identical. I think this is a little bizzare as it means that one will always look away. That is obvious from the picture! It is just not something I really noticed until they arrived. Somehow I would have expected the two men to be mirror images so they can both look out from the bookshelf. We have been trying to find bookends that could hold up a series of tall picture books and large-sized kids books on their shelves, who would guess how hard it is to find them, at stores and on line? I bought these this September, 2009, and they do NOT hold up more than 7-8 books without falling. My sons love the design, but I regret I bought these. I purchased these for my teenage girls. They make a great addition to their book shelves. They are pretty heavy and are much more fun then the boring bookends you usually find. I'm always on the lookout for different bookends and when I saw these, I put them on my Christmas List. I was very pleased when I received them. They are not only a nice weight so they hold the books very well but they also look really great. I'll definitly be ordering the other, Leaning Man set. Average Rating:![]() |

Sesame Street - Kids' Favorite SongsReviewsThe DVD is just fine. However, I gave this product 2 stars because I bought it specifically because it lists Spanish under the language, as well as English. I am trying to teach my daughter Spanish, and I chose this DVD specifically for that reason. There is no Spanish language version on this DVD. So, if you are considering it for that reason, then do not buy it. Otherwise, it is a fine Sesame Street video. This DVD, along with Kid's Favorite Country Songs, are so entertaining to my son (20 months) when he's awake and upbeat. If you're looking for something a little more relaxing, say before nap or bedtime, or when the kids are a bit cranky after a long day - try Sleepytime Songs and Stories - also a winner. My daughter loves this video. It keeps her entertained when I am trying to make supper. Our 15 month old loves this DVD. The songs are ones that he recognizes and it's a bonus that it has a plot and lots of counting backwards from 10 to 1. He dances to the songs- especially 'I've been Working on the Railroad' and 'This Old Bat'. This DVD is great for my toddler. She loves the characters and gets the opportunity to learn a lot through the songs, the actions and the children who are featured in the DVD. She can watch this all day and I needn't be worried about the content getting into her head. It's made for children and its a wonderful way to watch, listen and learn. It's fun for the adults too!! Hot Rocks 1964-1971(DSD Remastered)ReviewsGood sound quality. Some songs not 'Hot', but the Rolling Stones just the same. Most enjoyable! Five stars for the content, cuz it's the Stones, and I don't wish to anger whatever gods are backing them up. But be careful, because I typed in "hot rocks sacd" in searching for this item, and this dsd remaster is what comes up. Here's the thing: the sacd hybrid IS a dsd remaster, and hybrid means it has two layers, one the sacd dsd remaster, the other a regular cd dsd remaster that can play on any ol' cd playing device, but not with as much definition and clarity as the sacd layer, of course. I ordered one used, and the correct hybrid item showed up, but unfortunately, three tracks from the first disc wouldn't play. One of these tracks was 'Satisfaction'. I mean...how are you supposed to impress the chicks with a Stones disc that won't play 'Satisfaction'? You clearly can see my dilemna, so I had to return it, and I figured I would re-order it new this time, but then this dsd-only version shows up, which I didn't know even existed, and which I ordered from the same item description that previously delivered to me the faulty sacd hybrid that I had to return. I then tried contacting several of the vendors selling the set to determine which version they were peddling so I could re-order once more, but the only responses I got back were that they were all WAY too busy to go get a look at the disc and report back. This, of course, is a lie. I work in a company that has several vast warehouses, and there is no such thing in our book as being too busy to make sure the customer is getting what they are ordering. These vendors are just too lazy, and you simply can't tell me otherwise without expecting laughter in your face. By me. To sum up, Amazon doesn't know to discriminate between one version and the other, so if you're some crazy sacd player-owning fool like me, you're risking grief and heartbreak and sadness if you seek to order from them. I've looked at Amazon UK, and they seem to have it together with seperate descriptions that specify the sacd version, but I'm naturally hesitant to purchase from them, because they're still hot over us splitting off from the Empire and starting our own gig over here a few hundred years back. Remember, the low rating is for the lousy product identification - if you don't have a sacd player and just want to hear a great Stones collection of the hits, then mama mia! Look no further, weary traveller. This one will most definitely fix yer jones. But if you're looking for the gnarly hi-fi premium huckleberry, then abandon all hope ye who enter here. Good luck to us all. never received my CD, it's been a month. I wrote the company by e-mail a week age and never got a reponce as of 12/ 26/09 "Hot Rocks" was certainly a popular album in its day, but on reflection, it is woefully incomplete. There are only 3 songs here that pre-date "Satisfaction", creating a poor overview of their early period. The set then rushes through the rest of the band's catalog up to and ending with the "Sticky Fingers" album and the two hits from it. This is an OK collection for the more casual fan who wants most of the major hits, but the followup set "More Hot Rocks" is far more interesting overall, scooping up the hits that this set missed plus giving the more involved Stones fan a good number of rarities. "Hot Rocks" seemed to have been put together hastily, but great tracks are in abundance, no question about that. There just doesn't seem enough of them. A classic. Not much else needs to be said. Anyone that wants to learn about the Rolling Stones, THIS is the album. Average Rating:![]() |

Colour Me Free!ReviewsI absolutly love this c/d first time i ever bought A STONE C/D - yes i would recommend Love this cd heard one single on a jazz station and did a search for Joss Stone and went to Amazon and the rest is history. Joss Stone seems to be another in a line of British pop singers that sounds like a black 60's soul singer. Which is ok. She is particularly good at it. Great voice. Great phrasing. I'm a fan. Joss Stone has NOT disappointed me. I love every cd she has put out. On this cd I love Mr Wankerman. Wow! I have been listening to this CD most of the day. It is so good. When was the last time you bought a CD and it was good enough to play 5 times over and over and you did not get tired of it? It is absolutely awesome! Joss is back to her bluesy, awesome, original style and voice. Two songs toward the end of the CD are chill-inducing heartfelt ballads that she just wails and nails!!!! The import has an extra song that is great and fun. Joss is back after years of being forced to join with rappers with crappy music and singing pop songs. She is so much better than they allowed her to be. "Introducing Joss Stone" her last CD was not good because of the producers and suits who forced her to sing what they thought people wanted to hear. This new CD -- Colour Me Free - is awesome!!!!! The only bad part is the rapper who sings on Governmentalist. Stalemate and Girlfriend or Demand are the best songs on the CD. Give this woman grammy after grammy for this jewel. Average Rating:![]() |

The Sword in the Stone (Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection) [VHS]ReviewsThis is a wonderful Disney classic, suitable for young boys and girls! Beautiful animation, fun music, and an interesting plot. Highly recommended. as always, amazon has come threw again. Not Only Are Disney Movies Hard To Find but The prices are so unreasonable. With This Produce,I recieved The Best Quality and A Great Low Price. "The Sword in the Stone" is a nice little Disney picture. Animated and only 79 minutes long, it is ... just right ... for those of us whose attention spans are easily challenged. This movie is adapted from a book of the same title (written by T.H. White). Mr. White's book follows the early life of a famous British folklore hero, King Arthur (a legendary monarch of the 6th century). Bill Peet, the Disney story writer who wrote the adaptation, took the book and picked this, chose that, and changed this a little, and, in the end, did an outstanding job of producing a screen play that is funny and enjoyable. According to the story, a sword is magically thrust deep into an anvil that sits on top of a large stone. It is decreed (on the sword itself) that who-so-ever is able to remove the sword from the stone shall be anointed king of England. Many men try ... but they all fail. Then, after a long time has passed, a youth named Arthur appears on the scene and, miraculously, he pulls the sword from the stone ... and then is made ruler over all of England. The story also includes another legendary character ... Merlin the magician. Merlin is wise, powerful ... and dotty. He foresees the arrival of the twelve year old Arthur and he feels that it is fore-ordained for him, Merlin, to be the boy's teacher/mentor/companion to guide the lad toward some mysterious destiny. Merlin, Arthur, and Merlin's pet owl Archimedes (who can talk) then embark on three magical adventures ... afterwhich the movie moves swiftly to the dramatic moment of Arthur and the sword. The writing for "The Sword in the Stone" is good. No trouble is too serious or too scary and the trouble scenes are never drawn out. The bad guys (and bad creatures) are never allowed to win too much and our heroes are never allowed to lose too much. The importance of education is emphasized, but not over-emphasized. The story moves along at a comfortable pace, and all the scenes are believable ... in-as-much-as the behavior and reactions of the characters are plausible and credible. And there is a delicate charm and some depth of goodness in there too. Incidentally, Merlin is given some pretty good lines to speak, and the squirrel scene is delightful. The voice characterizations in "The Sword in the Stone" are very good. Karl Swenson provides the voice of Merlin, and he is wonderful. Junius Matthews does the voice for Archimedes the owl, and he is superb also. But the portrayals of the bad guys (often considered plum roles by actors and actresses; ones that they relish playing) in "The Sword in the Stone" are also done exceptionally well and they add a great deal of strength to the movie. Sebastian Cabot provides the voice for Arthur's boisterous and self-important master Sir Ector ... and this would be the refined, articulate, and dignified Sebastian Cabot ... and he is very convincing as the crass and uncouth Ector. Norman Alden uses his voice talents to portray Sir Ector's son Kay, and he also does an excellent job. Kay is an ill-mannered oaf, but after watching "The Sword in the Stone" a few times you begin to appreciate the good job Alden does ... with a minimum of lines ... in making this crude and rude character come to life. Martha Wentworth does the voice of the evil Madame Mim ... and she is a real treat. Madame Mim absolutely delights in the macabre, and Wentworth seems to have absolutely delighted in playing her. All in all, "The Sword in the Stone" gives us some pretty good entertainment and is deserving of repeated viewings. Great for you kids. My boy loves the movie, and you'll probably get a more positive message from this type of movies, other than modern kids movies I was so glad to see the Sword in the Stone Anniversary edition available, I had missed it when it sold in the stores and my 4 year old grand-daughter fell in love with it...now when she comes to Grandma's house, she picks out that movie to watch, just like her mommy!! Aladdin and the King of Thieves (Disney Presents) [VHS]ReviewsThe big day has finally arrived. The entire kingdom has turned out for Aladdin (Scott Weinger) and Jasmine's (Linda Larkin) wedding. Thanks to the Genie (Robin Williams), it looks to be a spectacular day. But then tragedy strikes. The 40 Thieves attack the wedding and try to steal just one present. Yes, that's right. But that present turns out to be an oracle that will answer one question. And through that oracle, Aladdin learns that his father is still alive. What he doesn't realize is that his father, Cassim (John Rhys-Davies), is the leader of the thieves. The family reunion pits Aladdin against Sa'luk (Jerry Orbach) who isn't happy with the way that Cassim has been running the gang. How will Jasmine react to the identity of Aladdin's father? Can Aladdin reform his dad? And how many different Disney movies can Robin Williams reference? This movie was better then I remembered. Having Robin Williams back as the voice of Genie really made a huge difference. And his many Disney references absolutely cracked me up. The story moved along fairly quickly, when it wasn't sabotaged by the songs. While some of the songs were fun in the last one, here they are all boring. They should have taken them out and just let the movie be that much shorter. This is still only an average follow up to a great film. But fans of the original will enjoy it, and it will keep kids entertained. All the Disney DTV sequels--or, as we sometimes refer to them in our homes, "cheap-quels"--have been bad. Or horrible. My problem with most of them is not actually with the movie itself, but with the all-but-inevitable leeching off of the original. Continuing a story that's already resolved or telling the same story as the first one are the M.O. for your average cheapquel--not remotely entertaining, just a ploy to make money The surprising thing about this movie is the fact that it ISN'T your average cheapquel. There may be an element of nostalgia in this review, but watching it again recently, I was surprised at how much of it still actually stood up as a decent movie, with actual quality in it. Despite the unavoidable stealing from the previous movies, this one actually DOES present some new material--and much of the story told is very creative and interesting. The new characters add a dimension to the old characters and the world that they inhabit, rather than simply ripping off or rehashing the first or second movie. The forty thieves and Caseem are interesting with their individual ways of fighting and talking. The Vanishing Isle is especially amazing, coming in a DTV feature, and the Oracle, despite some flaws, has an amazingly cool design and quality effects surrounding it. That sort of thought in character and design is exactly the kind of thing that the original Disney encouraged. Also, this movie didn't contradict already-existing characters' traits; this is another of my pet peeves. Aladdin was clearly himself, with no made-up flaws or strengths added to him--the same goes for the Genie and even Jasmine, Abu, Carpet, and Iago. (The only exception was Jasmine's sudden expertise in karate, but I suppose this was because it was the 90's, when every female was a black-belt--no matter their background or age.) The fact that they made the movie stand (relatively) alone is a great tribute to the makers as well. The original plan was to use a character from the TV show, Mozenrath, and reveal him to be Aladdin's brother. The fact that they had the confidence in their own storytelling abilities to scrap that plan and go with introducing Aladdin's father made the film much more interesting, opening up more possibilities for the story and the characters. Many of the sequences in the film are amazingly creative--again, see the Vanishing Isle sequence--and many of them are actually moving--the Challenge is surprisingly gripping, with effects like rim lighting and shadows. The animation, all in all, is better than your average TV show--which is what the animators were used to working on. The music, especially the score, performs surprisingly well for what its status in a cheapquel movie would entail. The voices, especially Caseem, Saluk, and of course the Genie (Robin Williams is back!) gave the movie, again, something new. All in all, this movie is surprisingly well done, in every sense. Though not feature quality, it's the only one of its kind that seems to get past being the sequel to a very successful movie, offering new material and creative ideas. For what it should have been, it is amazingly good. I'd at least give it a rent, if not a buy--even if it does drift to the back of your video drawer, it's a pleasant surprise to pull out on a rainy day. Aladdin and the King of Thieves is a great film. The best character is Aladdin's long-lost father - Cassim, the leader of the legendary forty thieves. A little Temple of Doom, a little swashbuckling, a little Sinbad, great costume designs, a lot of action and adventure, and a surprisingly thoughtful script. A must-have for Disney and Aladdin fans. The story begins as Al and Jasime prepare to be wed. The wedding is interrupted by the mysterious King of Thieves, after a treasure in Jasmine's wedding gifts. Aladdin seeks to have a relationship with his father, but how can he if their lifestyles are so different? Or are they really the same? Like real life, nothing is cut-and-dry or simple about this reunion. Really well-done, and Robin Williams provides great comic relief. I laughed out loud a couple of times at some references to other Disney characters. "Pocahontas!" This DTV sequel of Aladdin would not have been as great without the talents of Robin Williams. The animation is very DTV-ish, with the exception of the Vanishing Isle sequence. The music is fair, but does not capture the spirit of Alan Menken, Howard Ashman or Tim Rice's music. The story is about Aladdin and Jasmine getting married. During the ceremony, a band of forty thieves bust in. The king of thieves is actually Aladdin's long lost dad, Kasim [John Rhyes Davies of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy]. The villain here is Saluk, played by the late Jerry Orbachs, who you probably know from Law & Order and Beauty and the Beast. Robin Williams brings back all his wackiness and impersonations, including Forest Gump, Woody Allen, a funny spoof of the Osmonds.[''Boys! Come out here and see what's happening!''], Pumbaa, Mickey Mouse, and Rambo. The funniest scenes are when Genie is trying to cheer up Jasmine and a wild scene in The Vanishing Isle. I can't believe how poor this movie was. The original Aladdin was great. This was terrible. Robin Williams is truly talented, but he was was overused in this movie. The plot was convoluted. This movie was boring and couldn't hold the attention of 3 kids who really like the original. Skip this movie. There are many better Disney movies to see. Average Rating:![]() |

The Magic School Bus: Blows Its Top [VHS]ReviewsI liked the video. I teach 6th grade and we have done tectonic plates & volcanoes. It was a fun review for the students and they could enjoy the cartoon as well. I would recommend it. The Magic School Bus never lets me down! As a preschool science teacher, I use these videos to supplement what we are learning about. The little ones love MSB and request to watch them over and over again. In this video, they explore volcanoes and eruptions. The scientific language is used correctly and they illustrate each point in ways that children can understand. Two thumbs up for MSB!
